Lahey President Susan Moffatt-Bruce, MD, PhD, Receives 2025 BBJ Icon Award: Women Who Mean Business
Burlington, MA – Susan Moffatt-Bruce, MD, PhD, MBA, president of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, has been recognized with a 2025 Boston Business Journal (BBJ) Icon Award: Women Who Mean Business, honoring her significant impact within Greater Boston’s business community.

Dr. Moffatt-Bruce was one of 11 Women Who Mean Business honorees celebrated at the BBJ’s Icon Awards on Dec. 4 at the Boston Hilton Park Plaza. The signature program, which also recognized a Rising Star and an InspireHer Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, spotlighted women across Greater Boston who are driving change through their leadership and community contributions.
Dr. Moffatt-Bruce was selected for the Women Who Mean Business award from over 140 nominations. She was introduced at the Icon Awards by Jane C. Edmonds, president of the Board of Trustees for Lahey Hospital & Medical Center and vice president for programming and community outreach at Babson College.
An accomplished cardiothoracic surgeon and research scientist, Dr. Moffatt-Bruce joined Lahey in 2023 and leads all aspects of the 333-bed tertiary academic medical center, regarded for its clinic model of care, pioneering treatments and leading-edge research. In 2024, she oversaw the launch of the UMass Chan-Lahey Regional Medical School campus in Burlington, where she serves as a professor of surgery. She is also a divisional president for Beth Israel Lahey Health.
Delivering extraordinary community-based care is a core priority for Dr. Moffatt-Bruce and she is committed to meeting the diverse needs of Lahey’s patient population where they work and live. She is equally dedicated to fostering a workplace culture grounded in respect, belonging and equity, while also positively impacting the next generation of health care professionals.

Prior to joining Lahey, Dr. Moffatt-Bruce served as Chief Executive Officer of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and Royal College International and was a faculty member and professor at the University of Ottawa. She previously held leadership positions at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
Dr. Moffatt-Bruce has received numerous honors, including the American Medical Association Women Physicians Section Inspiration Award (2023) and recognition as one of Becker’s Hospital Review’s Women Hospital Presidents and CEOs to Know (2024 and 2025). She was also named to the Women’s Edge Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts for 2024 and 2025.
