MassDEP tightens regulations on disposal of food waste from businesses
Effective November 1, 2022, the MassDEP is lowering the threshold for the commercial organics ban so that it applies to businesses and institutions generating one-half ton or more food waste per week (see estimation guide). Hundreds of businesses and institutions have already taken steps to reduce and divert food waste from disposal, relying on a variety of different options.
