Lahey Clinic Expansion Receives State Approval
The project will increase inpatient capacity, enhance cardiac services and improve access for patients.
Burlington, Mass. – Lahey Clinic has received approval from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for an expansion project that will increase inpatient capacity and strengthen access to high-quality care for communities across the region.
The expansion will create a new inpatient unit with 36 medical-surgical beds and eight observation beds as well as a new cardiac catheterization/electrophysiology lab at the clinic’s main campus in Burlington.
The project is designed to meet the growing demand for inpatient care and help to reduce wait times in the Emergency Department. It will also expand access to advanced cardiovascular diagnostic and interventional care for patients close to home.
The project will also add a second computed tomography (CT) scanner at the Lahey Clinic – Peabody location, increasing access to advanced diagnostic imaging and providing greater convenience for North Shore patients.
"This approval by The Department of Public Health is an important recognition of the evolving healthcare needs of our patients and communities,” said Susan Moffatt-Bruce, MD, PhD, president of Lahey Clinic, part of Beth Israel Lahey Health. "The expansion will enable us to better serve a growing patient population, enhance the patient experience and strengthen our ability to deliver exceptional care throughout the region."
The expansion reflects the commitment of Beth Israel Lahey Health to increase access to community-based diagnostic, specialty and procedural care, expanding opportunities for patients to receive care closer to home while benefiting from the expertise and resources of an integrated regional healthcare network.
As part of the project, Lahey Clinic will invest nearly $4 million in Community Health Initiative funds to support programs and partnerships that address unmet community health needs and improve the health and well-being of residents throughout the communities it serves.
The approval of the DON marks an important milestone in The Campaign for Lahey Clinic: care, elevated, Lahey's ongoing $150 million fundraising effort. A central focus of the campaign is raising philanthropic support for the capital enhancements included in the approved DON application, which will create state-of-the-art care environments that enhance the patient experience and expand access to specialized services across key clinical areas, including cardiovascular care, neurosciences, advanced gastroenterology and transplant services, cancer care, and women's health. Together, these investments will strengthen Lahey's ability to meet growing regional demand and advance clinical excellence for generations to come.
