Lahey Hospital & Medical Center Names Scott James as Senior Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer

Scott E. James, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, has been named Senior Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (LHMC). James, who has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare leadership in both pediatric and adult academic health systems, will further the delivery of extraordinary patient-focused care within LHMC’s Jean Cunningham Department of Nursing. 

As a member of the senior leadership team, James will be responsible for the strategy and systems integral to the promotion and enhancement of high-quality nursing care at the hospital, supported through ongoing professional development for the Department of Nursing.  

“Scott is a proven nursing leader with extensive professional management and clinical experience who has demonstrated success in driving patient care and performance at the highest level,” said Susan Moffatt-Bruce, MD, PhD, president of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. “I am confident that Scott will continue the legacy of nursing excellence that has been a hallmark of our hospital for over a century.” 

James brings a demonstrated record of accomplishment working within Magnet-designated health organizations to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. Most recently, he served as associate chief nursing officer of Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia for the last four years. Prior to that, he worked as division director at The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., from 2014 to 2019.

James previously held leadership positions at INOVA Fairfax Medical Center in Virginia, the Children’s National Hospital (formerly Children’s National Medical Center) in Washington, D.C., and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. He began his career as an emergency medical services and trauma coordinator in Connecticut and as a flight nurse at Hartford Hospital. 
 

James earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Hartford, and a doctorate in nursing practice and post-doctoral certificate in academic nursing education, both from Drexel University in Philadelphia.
