LRTA Fare Free Pilot Program Extended Through End of June 2026
The LRTA has announced that the current Fare Free Pilot Program, which was introduced in October 2024, has been extended through June 30, 2026 for both Fixed Bus Route and Road Runner. (Fares may resume 7/1/2026 Subject to State Funding)The LRTA wants to Thank Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll, as well as the Massachusetts State Legislature for funding this Fare Free Transportation Pilot Program that will greatly benefit our communities. LRTA Awarded Grant to Provide Year-round Fare Free Transit Service
The Healey-Driscoll Administration today announced $30 million in grants to 13 Regional Transit Authorities (RTAs) in Massachusetts to provide year-round, fare free public transportation services. The funding was provided in the Fiscal Year 2025 budget signed by Governor Maura Healey in July and builds off of two years of successful pilot programs. LRTA Route 13
Starting at Kennedy Center in Lowell, the Lowell Regional Transit Authority Route 13 (Billerica via Edson) offers bus transportation to Chestnut Street in Burlington from 6:30am - 5:30pm every weekday, and 7:30am to 4:30pm on Saturdays (no services Sundays). Also making stops in Chelmsford and Billerica, the route's shuttle makes its final trip back to Kennedy Center at 5:10pm from Burlington, arriving back in Lowell at 5:48pm. LRTA Route 14
Starting at Kennedy Center in Lowell, the Lowell Regional Transit Authority Route 14 (Burlington Mall/Lahey Clinic) offers bus transportation to the MITRE facility, Middlesex Turnpike & Terrace Hall Ave, Third Ave, the Burlington Mall, and Lahey Clinic in Burlington. Route 14 offers shuttle rides from 6:00am - 6:00pm every weekday, and 8:00am to 5:00pm on Saturdays (no services Sundays). Also making stops in Chelmsford, North Billerica, Billerica, and Bedford, the route's shuttle makes its final trip back
